USB turntables are a way to have the best of both worlds. Since the future of audio is with computers, much exist on vinyl that now can be accessed using a USB turntable. But, they can be fragile pieces of equipment for such a big item, so you need to have rules for protecting it from harm.
The first thing is, is should come with some kind of cover. Most turntables do, but not all of them. If it comes with a cover of some sort, make sure to put that cover on your turntables as soon as you’ve finished using it. That will help to keep dust out of its components, which is one of the main reasons turntables might eventually fail.
The second thing is that, since it’s a USB cable, you need to make sure you protect the cable from harm. This mean protecting the part that goes into your computer and the part that goes into the turntable itself. Try to set up your turntable so that the cable isn’t too taut, to minimize the risk of accidentally yanking too hard on the part of the cable that’s attached to your turntable. On the other end, if you’re unplugging your cable from time to time, you need to cover the end up as well to protect it. Think about wrapping a plastic covering over it in some fashion.
Next, make sure you protect the stylus of the tone arm, the end that plays the records. Many USB turntables come with coverings for that area specifically, so make sure you use it. Also, if it comes with a clip that secures the arm, make sure you always secure the arm after use.
As it pertains to the actual turntable itself, always make sure to keep it clean and dry, since it’s sitting upon the most valuable components of the entire record player. If the manual mentions it, work in making sure it stays lubricated properly.
If you take care of your turntables, you should get many years of great use from it.
