Once you have the Audacity software loaded, simply connect the turntable to any available USB port on your computer, and the correct driver will install automatically. I used my laptop running Windows XP Pro, but Pro-Ject says the Debut III USB will also work fine using Mac OS X or Linux. With Audacity up and running, you’ll need to make a few adjustments from the default settings to set it up for a 2-channel input, but once configured, the software is pretty easy to navigate. The default setting records at CD quality (44.1-kHz sampling rate with 16-bit resolution), but this setting is widely adjustable
Avoid ripping LP to CD there is a better way
July 28th, 2010
admin Traditionally, the most common method for doing this has been to copy the LP to CD using a standalone CD recorder, and then rip it to a computer’s hard disk using its CD drive. I’ve done this myself for many years with excellent results, although it is time-consuming and cumbersome. What if you could remove that intermediary step? There are a few turntables on the market with a USB output to connect directly to a computer, but the performance of most of these is pretty iffy. Not surprisingly, they’re aimed at listeners who aren’t going to nitpick too much about the sound quality of the transfer.
Move from analog to digital with a USB Turntable
July 19th, 2010
admin For purist audiophiles, converting precious analog records into a digital format has about as much appeal as drinking a fine Cabernet on the rocks. Yet many of us with large collections of vinyl LPs want to be able to appreciate these treasures even when we’re away from our fancy rigs. Once a record has been saved as a digital file, you can burn it onto a CD, transfer it to an iPod, or stream it to different parts of the house over a home network. The trick has always been in making that move from analog to digital without having to jump through too many hoops.
WHY A USB TURNTABLE?
July 16th, 2010
admin You see lots of ads for USB Turntables. But are they right for you? Check out what to look for below to see if they can do the job for you.
It’s really about:
1.) The quality of the digital sound you’re going to get.
2.) The ease of editing, i.e., getting each song separated into tracks so you can keep the ones you want and delete the ones you don’t.

Why not convert old-fashioned LPs to MP3s yourself
July 16th, 2010
admin If you’ve got a collection of LPs (those pre-MP3, pre-CD, flat black platter-like things) or even 45s (like LPs, but smaller) sitting in boxes somewhere, there are probably some tunes on them, even entire albums, that you wouldn’t mind having on your portable media player. Why not convert these old-fashioned LPs to MP3s yourself?
Fortunately, that’s both possible and affordable. There are a number of “USB turntables” out there that include USB ports and onboard electronics to help you MP3-ize your vinyl albums. And if you still have a working turntable, there’s even a way to use the one you’ve got to convert analog music to digital.
Briefcase USB Turntable – What Next?
July 16th, 2010
admin Can’t let go of your beloved vinyl? If you’re sticking to vinyl, this is probably the closest you’ll come to “portable” music for it. Since it’s stuck into a briefcase, you’ll look perfectly professional while carrying it around. Its belt-driven mechanism will play 7”, 10” and 12” records and sports a fully automatic return tone arm and built-in dynamic full range stereo speakers. It even has connectors to hook it up to your computer’s USB port, and you can then convert your vinyl audio into digital format. Of course, this Briefcase USB turntable probably doesn’t know that it’s helping you convert your vinyl collection into a format that will be replacing it
Recording with USB turntables
July 7th, 2010
admin USB turntables are designed to transfer records to digital audio files or CDs by connecting to the computer’s USB port, and are especially useful if your computer doesn’t have the line-in port needed when digitizing LPs with a conventional turntable. USB turntables often include a line input for transferring from tape decks or similar sources as well. Audacity is suitable for recording from any make of USB turntable, using the instructions on this page.
Several manufacturers of USB turntables now bundle Audacity with their product, notably Ion Audio, Numark, Kam and Lenco.

scratches, clicks and pops that build up on your LPs and 45s over time no matter how careful we all are.
But, when you make a permanent copy that you’ll listen to for the next 20 years, every imperfection will be repeated over and over again.
And, because you’ll know exactly when it’s coming, it will gnaw away at you like fingernails on a blackboard.

SO WHY DO YOU NEED
A PC INTERFACE MIXER?
Actually, you need the PC interface mixer for 3 major reasons. Connecting a Turntable or Cassette deck to your computer used to be very problematic.
But this professional PC Interface Preamp Mixer really does instantly solve all your connection problems. Plus, it’s a great mixer to use for mixing in your stereo system, PA system or DJ Amps when you’re on the road.
Of course, you may only want to connect one turntable or cassette deck to your PC, but you need top of the line quality for the copying process so you’re getting a component with a ton of overkill to do the job right.
It has switchable inputs for 2 turntables or 2 cassette decks. It has a microphone in jack and a headphone monitoring jack too. Of course there are separate volume controls for every function. Plus you can fade between two turntables, two cassette decks or one of each.
It’s perfectly matched for your magnetic phono cartridges at 3 mV @50kOhm and line in at 150mV@ 100Kohm. And here’s the important part – It feeds a 1.5V 600 Ohms signal to your sound card’s line-in.
With its 20-20000 Hz frequency response and -80db Signal to Noise, you’re going to get great recordings.
